Safety Update:

We want to inform our families about a concern recently shared with us by our valued partners at the Crete Police Department. The Crete Police Department has received information regarding individuals in the community carrying realistic-looking Orbeez guns (also known as Splat Guns).

Although often marketed as toys, many of these devices closely resemble real firearms. This can create unnecessary alarm and confusion, especially in a school setting. Even without harmful intent, the presence of a realistic-looking replica can quickly escalate a situation and require an immediate response from school staff and law enforcement.

As outlined in our Board Policy and Student Handbook, students are prohibited from bringing weapons, look-alike weapons, or any item that disrupts the safety and security of the school environment onto school property. This includes toy or replica firearms such as Orbeez guns. Violations may result in disciplinary consequences consistent with district policy, including expulsion.

We are grateful for our partnership with the Crete Police Department and their proactive communication. By working together, Crete Public Schools, families, and law enforcement, we can continue to ensure that our schools and community remain safe, secure, and focused on learning.

We encourage you to have conversations with your student(s) to ensure these items remain at home.

Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to student safety.

Attendance Updates:

Did you know...?

Attending school every day has impacts beyond elementary, middle, and high school. Research shows almost 90% of students who miss 15 days a year in high school drop out of college. Prepare for the future by encouraging consistent attendance every day your student isn't sick.
