December Newsletter

Note from the Principal

The first semester has gone by quickly, and I’m proud of all we’ve accomplished together. As we wrap up the semester, students will be taking MAP assessments in the coming weeks. These assessments help us measure the growth students have made so far this year.

Testing dates are as follows:

ELA: December 2–4
Math: December 9–11
Science: December 16–17

Wishing you a joyful and restful holiday season. Thank you for your continued support of our students and school community. I look forward to all we will achieve in the second semester.

Reminders

  • There will be no school on November 26th, 27th, 28th.

  • December 9th- Choir Concert (6th @ 6:30, 7th & 8th @ 7:30)
  • December 12th- MS Snowball dance @ 6:00
  • December 15th- Band Booster Soup Supper & Concert @ 5:30
  • For your child’s safety, please do not drop your child off for school before 7:30 AM. Staff supervision begins at 7:30 AM.

  • As cold weather moves in, please make sure your child has warm clothing (coat, gloves, hat, and boots for when it snows). Our students will go outside for recess as much as possible during the winter months (even if it is shortened). The students deserve a much-needed break in the fresh air.

  • If you would like to nominate a CMS staff member who goes above and beyond, use this link, and they could be recognized by the district office.

Spelling Bee

Congratulations to the following students for qualifying for the Crete Public Schools Spelling Bee:

6th Grade: Peyton Ginapp, Leah Hajek, Alex Hesser, Andy Huynh, Monica Manzo Vazquez, Mason Mercurio, Enzo Paredes Lewis, Xavi Paredes Lewis, Matthew Quinn, Charlie Slama, Alayna Svec, James Wilsman

7th Grade: Angie Cruz Ramos, Tony Huynh, Kasen Hampton, Carson Henderson, Hope Moore, Jon Murphy, Samantha O'Hare, Jake Orlov, Bristol Parde, Jose Perez Ruiz, Audrey Rockwell, Braxton Skillett, Amy Strilkivsky, Briana Vasquez Lopez

8th Grade: Emma Begay, Reese Cain, Joey Erpelding, Daniel Garcia-Bautista, Ahniyah Godel, Lena Gropp, Alex Hajek, Katie Lopez, Molly McMurray, Adonai Quintanilla Segundo, Wyatt Roush, Will Sebade, Lilian Underwood

This year, our spelling bee will be a written competition held during the school day, aligning with the county-level format. Based on valuable community feedback and a need to increase participation from last year's 52%, the shift to a written, in-school spelling bee format provides students with a more consistent and accessible competition experience. The grade level competitions will take place December 9th.  The top 3 students from each grade level will advance to the Saline County Spelling Bee.

Attendance Updates:

Did you know...?

Consistent attendance builds stronger reading skills! Research shows that students who miss just 2 days of school a month are less likely to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade. Make sure your student is in school each day they are not sick.
