Parent Teacher Conferences

Dear Families,

Our last formal Parent-Teacher conferences are this month and our goal is to have 100% parent participation. We have scheduled conferences for Monday, February 26th from 6-8:00 pm and Thursday, February 29th from 8:00-11:30, 12:30-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm. You will receive a letter or phone call from your child's teacher with your scheduled conference time. If you are unable to make it, please contact the office to schedule an alternate time to meet 826-7803

Attendance Matters!

Did you know your child’s attendance affects Crete Elementary School's “Grade” given by the state?

Every year the state sends out a report, ranking schools in the state of Nebraska. Schools are ranked as Excellent, Great, Good or Needs Improvement.

Attendance is a huge component of how Crete Elementary gets ranked. The state only allows a student to miss 10% of their school membership. That means in a school year of 170 days, a student can not miss more than 17 days.

Crete Elementary sends attendance letters home to families at 10 and 15 absences. The State of Nebraska requires all school districts to report students that have missed 20 days of school to the county attorney.

We are working hard at Crete Elementary to encourage our students to come to school every day. Grade level attendance is tracked weekly. Our building goal is to have 98% of our students in attendance daily.

Crete Elementary's state ranking goal is to be EXCELLENT. Please help us! By sending your child to school every day, when they are not ill, is a reflection that you value the ranking we receive.

Popcorn Day

This month Kindergarten will be selling popcorn on Friday, 2/16/24. Please contact the office if you can help out. Popcorn sells for $.50 a bag.

Lost and Found

Please make sure your child’s jackets and lunch boxes are labeled with his or her name. This is the time of year when students have a tendency to forget these items at school and we need your help in making sure that they can be returned. Thank you for your assistance.

PreK & Kindergarten Enrollment

Enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year will begin on Monday, February 26th! This will be done online via Infinite Campus. More information will be shared about how to create an Infinite Campus account.

Valentine’s Day

We will be having Valentine Celebrations in all classrooms on Wednesday, February 14th.

More information will be coming home from your child’s teacher. Teachers will be putting individual classroom times and class rosters in their newsletters. If you are providing treats for the party they need to be store bought and packaged from the approved USDA Smart list.

We want the celebrations to continue, and we've tried to make it as easy as possible to comply with the updated policy. Suppose you want to provide a treat for the celebration and don't want to worry about the updated guidelines. In that case, you can fill out a Celebration Treat Order Form at least three days before the preferred celebration date, turn it into the school office, and we will take care of the rest. We also know that shopping for treats can be a great opportunity to spend time together as a family. If you'd like to shop for your own treats, you can find the list here https://www.creteschools.org/page/usda-smart-snack-approved-items This list includes treats that are peanut and tree-nut aware. We also encourage you to consider non-food items (pencils, stickers, mochis, friendship bracelets, etc.) to send with your student(s) for celebrations.

We will not accept candy or sugary treats to be passed out with individual Valentine cards and goodie bags. Please pick a treat from the approved list or a small non-food item. (pencils, stickers, mochis, friendship bracelets, etc.) to send with your student(s) to pass out with their Valentine cards.

Parent Educator Collaboration:

Crete Elementary and Intermediate Parent Educator Collaboration (previously PTO) will have their next meeting on Monday, Feb 21st 6:30-7:30 at the Elementary School.
